Kim Steiger de Moissac, BSW, RSW
Clinical Counsellor/Registered Social Worker

I am a Registered Social Worker with a Bachelor of Social Work Degree through the University of Regina. I have 14 years of professional experience working within the healthcare system with children, youth, adults, and families supporting and advocating throughout complex challenges. I have worked in mental health and addictions services as well as in many areas of acute care as a medical social worker. My career has brought me a great wealth of knowledge in many areas of counselling including mental health and addiction, crisis and trauma, adjustment to chronic health issues, and grief and loss. I also have a strong knowledge base of connecting individuals and families to community resources and supports.

I have a particular interest in working with adolescents/youth as this can be a challenging time as rapid physical, emotional and social change occur. It can be a stressful period of transition dealing with many challenges such as social and family dynamics, educational challenges, gender identity, social media, bullying and cyberbullying, substance use which can all contribute to struggles with mental and physical well-being. When working with adolescents/youth I focus on building rapport, confidence, and self-esteem.

I am extremely passionate about the work I do and the individuals I have the privilege to work with along the way. Life brings many challenges and by focusing on strengths, enhancing coping strategies and support systems I strive to empower and offer support to those who are facing challenges or disruptions in life. Though it is not always easy, I believe everyone is capable of creating change and making positive life choices to better themselves, to be the best they can be and to find balance and perspective. I encourage clients to explore feelings and emotions and work from where they are at using a holistic approach. This means looking at how all areas of their life mental, emotional, physical, social, spiritual affect their being. I work from an integrated approach drawing from client-centered, strength-based, solution-focused models, family systems theories, cognitive behavioural therapy methods, and motivational interviewing techniques to navigate clients in reaching their full potential.

I am empathetic and known to connect easily with my clients. I am also known for my humour and when appropriate I believe humour can be extremely therapeutic. I practice in creating a safe, confidential, non-judgemental, culturally sensitive environment to support clients. Additionally, I am an approved provider for those with Non-Insured Health Benefits for First Nations (NIHB).

I work with adolescence/youth (ages 10+), and adult individuals in the following areas:

  • Addiction/Substance Abuse
  • Anxiety
  • Abuse (Emotional & Physical)
  • Bullying
  • Chronic illness/Health challenges
  • Depression
  • Grief & Loss
  • Maternal health/Pre-natal & Post-partum
  • Self-esteem/Body image
  • Suicidal ideation/Self harm
  • Stress management
  • Teen pregnancy
  • Trauma/PTSD

Outside of work I focus to create balance in my own life with self-care. I am a mom and live for time spent with my busy toddlers, family and friends. I have a love of travel, music, and interior design.
